Millinery Courses and Workshops

The experience and training I shall be passing on to you comes from years of training I have undertaken at great expense. You will have access to my materials, specalised equipment and expertise gained over many years. During every course you will be given a booklet that supports your ideas and process.

My training has taken place in the UK and France. Therefore, the creation you make under my tuition will be a unique design and one-off piece bespoke to you alone.

Felt courses will need to run over two days.

Day one will be looking at the types of felt we use, preparing the felt and then blocking over your chosen block or blocks depending on your design. This could take shape with two blocks, the crown and brim – During the process of preparing the felt will need to be soaked and stiffened. Once blocked over the wooden shape, time is required to dry the felt into its shape. This needs to be either overnight or longer according to the course time you have chosen.

Day two will consist of trimming your design after removing from the block/s, wiring and trimming the brim edges, inserting an inner band and adding crown bands plus individual choices of final touches.

1 day fascinator course – £60pp

What to expect

Using pre-blocked bases create a fascinator using various materials, all included in price.
You will have the opportunity to look at fascinators in the showroom, plan and design your own piece using feathers, crin, ribbons, veiling and other embellishments’.

Group bookings and hen parties with a difference. All materials are included in the price. Refreshments and snacks are available throughout day.

This fun day course will enable you to create your own bespoke fascinator design. I will provide premade bases with choices of a round base or teardrop shape. You will have access to various flowers, feathers and swirls to complete a stunning little number that is personal to you. You will be guided through how we attach the bases to your choice of headband, explain about colour matches whether it be, block colours or picking out shades from your outfit to personalise your headpiece.

Evening Courses

You will have the chance to create & make a felt or Sinaway hat. All materials included.

These evening classes will give you the opportunity to create a beautiful designer of your choice. Course can be tailored to your time and days that work and home life can often dedicate. When deciding which type of material you wish to work with Heather will design an evening course running over several weeks. The courses will give you the opportunity to experience traditional millinery methods. You will be provided with the fabrics, trims and use of specialised equipment.

Each week you will be taught stages of blocking and creating a bespoke piece you have designed to match an particular outfit or a casual winter hats. To support your learning a booklet targeting each week’s learning will be provided. Using this to log ideas and teaching techniques will be a valuable resource for future use.
